HISTORY OF COLD SPRINGS CAMP RESORT

Est. 1969

In 1968 Robert and Gail worked at Memorial Hospital in Nashua, NH. Robert was a cook and Gail was a nurse and a waitress. Not long after Bob and Gail bought their first RV, an 18’ travel trailer, to take the family camping. They had two sons, Scott 3 and Todd 1. They really enjoyed camping, and while driving on route 114 in Weare, they saw a sign “land for sale.” Robert always wanted his own business, and was planning on opening up a restaurant. When he saw the land for sale, he thought about opening a campground. This sparked the idea of asking Gail’s parents if they wanted to go in on it. They did, and in May of 1969, they opened Cold Springs Campground with 15 sites, a cabin and an office building.

Over time, more sites were built and Robert and Gail became the sole owners of the campground. Robert and Gail quit their jobs and became full time campground operators while expanding the campground. “We were not looking for a way to make money as much as we wanted to establish a healthy environment to raise and support a family in,” said Bob.

During this time, Robert started buying and selling a camper every once in a while. As this hobby took over and got busier, he began selling campers out of his front yard right next to the campground. As business grew, the lot became too small. In 1984, he purchased a 5000 sq foot building in New Boston 3 miles away, and became a fill line RV dealer. That facility was quickly outgrown, and in 1987, he built the dealership they are in now.

One benefit that not many campgrounds are able to advertise, is that Cold Springs offers the convenience of onsite RV work while the family is enjoying camping at the campground. In all of New England, there are only a few campground owners who are also licensed and qualified to sell and maintain RV’s the Silva family being one of them.

50 years later, Cold Springs has grown to over 400 sites, 108 acres and continues to make modern design improvements. Although we could easily fill up 400 sites with seasonal campers, there is a special value in keeping a percentage of those sites open for transient campers. The true meaning of this is the campers who come to visit from all over the world add a special component to camping that helps to keep the all-around camping experience fresh and alive. We are proud to offer heated pools, hot tubs, large outdoor pavilions, small beach area, pond to go fishing, dog park, up to date playground, soccer field, basketball court, volleyball, great food in the café, store for all your camping needs, and many weekly activities for everyone to enjoy.

We encourage Cold Springs to be known as “The Most Fun Campground In NH.” We always look for new and fun ideas and activities to make sure we continue to stay “The Most Fun Campground In NH” where families come to relax and vacation. We consider ourselves a resort and not just a campground, this was not in the master plan; it just happened. With always looking for something new to add and update, it is easy to maintain the title of being a resort.

In 2013, Robert passed away and his two sons Scott and Todd were handed down Cold Springs RV where Scott would run as controlling partner/manager. In 2019, Gail handed down ownership. Todd continues his role as manager. The Silva family represents having three generations of master plans and visionaries. We hope to continue our growth and carry on more generations. We would like to say thank you to all the wonderful campers who have helped to make our dreams a reality.
